Join us for opening night and exhibition on Thursday, 26 Mar 2026, 5:30pm.

Mathematicians and Artists will be showcasing their mathematical creativity within the Hanna Neumann building #145.

The evening will open in the Seminar Room 1.33 with keynote speaker, artistic donor, and friend of the MSI, Richard Hassell whose bats trace sweeping arcs across the plane guided by a subjacent geometry.

The full exhibit will span four floors of the Hanna Neumann building, with mathematicians giving talks explaining the mathematics in the artist work.

Light refreshments will be available on each floor, opening night, to be enjoyed while experiencing this unique evening.

Expect statement art pieces — including a delicate fractal-inspired tea set by Michael Barnsley, arriving just in time for your Bridgerton-era daydreams, where Regency elegance meets recursive geometry.

This exhibition is designed to be self-guided with information placards and QR codes so you can listen to and learn the underpinning mathematical story at your own pace.

The exhibition will run for six weeks from Opening Night, ending on Friday, 8 May 2026, Mondays to Fridays, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
