Congratulations to Professor John Cannon, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Sydney, who has been awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the Australia Day Honours for “distinguished service to tertiary education, to mathematical computation, to cryptography, and to the development of algebraic software systems.”
John has been:
- Fellow, Australian Academy of Science since 2022
- Professor of Mathematics at Sydney University since 2000
- Reader in Pure Mathematics: 1986–1999
- Senior Lecturer, Pure Mathematics: 1973–1985
- Lecturer, Pure Mathematics: 1967–1969 and 1971–1972
- Member, Computational Algebra Group: current
- Founder, MAGMA
- member of various committees and boards, 1974–2015.
