The 13th Delta Conference – First Announcement

On behalf of the organising committee, we are delighted to share the first announcement of the 13th Southern Hemisphere Delta Conference on the Teaching and Learning of Undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics to be held on 22 – 25 November 2021 at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. For the first time, the conference presentations will be made online via video conferencing. Delta attracts an international audience of academics interested in mathematics and statistics education, including disciplinary specialists, education theorists, and tertiary education practitioners across the mathematical sciences and engineering. Traditionally, the conference focuses not only on the dissemination of practical initiatives but also on research outputs, which are published as double-blind peer-reviewed articles in the special issue of the International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology (submission deadline is 6 April https://bit.ly/International_Journal_Mathematical_Education_Science_Technology; guest editor: Tanya Evans) and as full double-blind peer-reviewed papers in the conference proceedings (submission deadline is 13 August; editors: Stephanie Budgett and Rosalind Cameron).

Registrations will open on 18 February 2021. The Early-bird conference registration fee is NZ $120 before 30 September 2021, while the standard conference registration fee is NZ $150 after 30 September 2021.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Statistics
University of Oxford

Closing Date: 12th March 2021

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant, to join our group at the Department of Statistics. The Postdoctoral Research Assistant will be carrying out research for the ERC project General Theory for Big Bayes, reporting to Professor Judith Rousseau. They will provide guidance to junior members of the research group such as PhD students, and/or project volunteers. The aim of this project is to develop a general theory for the analysis of Bayesian methods in complex and high (or infinite) dimensional models which will cover not only fine understanding of the posterior distributions but also an analysis of the output of the algorithms used to implement the approaches. The main objectives of the project are (briefly): 1) Asymptotic analysis of the posterior distribution of complex high dimensional models 2) Interactions between the asymptotic theory of high dimensional posterior distributions and computational complexity. We will also enrich these theoretical developments by 3) strongly related domains of applications, namely neuroscience, terrorism and crimes and ecology.

The postholder will hold or be close to completion of a PhD/Dphil in statistics together with relevant experience. They will have the ability to manage own academic research and associated activities and have previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations. They will contribute ideas for new research projects and research income generation. Ideally, the postholder will also have experience in theoretical properties of Bayesian procedures and/or approximate Bayesian methods.

Queries about this post should be addressed to professor Judith Rousseau judith.rousseau@stats.ox.ac.uk

This post is fixed-term until three years

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 12 March 2021 will be considered.

Interviews will be held on 29 March 2021.
